Lars Erstrand is a world famous Swedish vibraphonist, born in 1936. Being rooted in the golden Swing era, Erstrand's playing is much influenced of that of Lionel Hampton. During the 60s Erstrand met clarinetist Ove Lind, whom he developed a forty-year collaboration with.
On Erstrand's curriculum vitae can be noted playing with Benny Goodman in Paris 1972, who also joined Erstrand when playing at Michael's Pub in New York at several occasions. In 1991 the Swedish vibraphonist recorded an album entitled "Two Generations" together with Lionel Hampton.
Other musicians whom Erstrand have played with include Alice Babs, Svend Asmussen, Arne Domnérus, Bob Wilbur, Scott Hamilton, the Swedish Swing Society and Antti Sarpila. Still today many artists turn to Erstrand for assistance, such as clarinetist and tenor saxophonist Ken Peplowski and guitarist Frank Vignolia. To this very day Erstrand is highly active playing with his quartet "Lars Erstrand Four".
